Which Aromatherapy Diffuser is Right for You?

Which Aromatherapy Diffuser is Right for You? An Aromatherapy Diffuser Review & Giveaway

Aromatherapy is big business these days, and comes to us in a plethora of methods to employ it. Skin applied oils, incense sticks, and of course diffusers for your home. Incense is a time-honored classic, but comes with the burden of filling your home with burning hydrocarbons, a thing most health-conscious home-owners try to avoid. The ash and soot build-up is no treat either. That’s why we are firm believer in oil diffusion for your home, soot and ash-free diffusers help to disperse the wonders of aromatherapy throughout your home.

There are two primary types of diffusers, heat and ultrasonic. We’ll be honest, we’d never heard of ultrasonic diffusion when we first got into aromatherapy for the home, but it’s really a great option. Unlike the common candle-driven diffusers, there’s no need for messy tealights or open flames in your home, and the therapeutic properties of the oil won’t be damaged by the heat, so it’s especially good for those who have concerns surrounding fires in the home.

Nebulizer/Cold Air Diffuser – As the name suggests, cold-air diffusers don’t use any heat in their dispersal process, which is great for light, airy oils. Heavier oils sometimes have problems getting properly dispersed, and they can be a bit of a pain to clean as a result. They also have the benefit of heavy dispersal, saturating the air with the therapeutic properties of your chosen oil, unfortunately this also means they consume those oils at a higher rate than just about any alternative. These diffusers use ultrasonic waves to help disperse the oils, putting them solidly in the ultrasonic diffuser category.

Evaporative Diffuser – These diffusers don’t fit neatly into either category, essentially being a form in and of themselves. The concept behind them is very simple, you take a pad saturated in oil and place it in a device with a built in fan that steadily evaporates the substances on them. Another variety doesn’t include a fan, but instead can often be found in the form of a worn diffuser such as the clay bottles and glass pendants that slowly disperse the oil into the air around the wearer. These aren’t a great solution for the home, their diffusion doesn’t spread far, but they’re perfect for hotel rooms and personal wear on the go.

Heat Diffuser – Far and away the best method for getting good coverage in your home. The issue comes from the damage heat does to the therapeutic properties of most essential oils. The heat that disperses the oil also alters its chemistry, meaning that heat diffusers aren’t appropriate for therapeutic properties.

Ultrasonic Diffuser – If you’re aiming for a therapeutic use of essential oils in your home, this is the solution you’re looking for. The electronic frequencies help to agitate the water, providing vibrations that transfer to the essential oils floating on top. These vibrations energize the essential oils, causing them to rise and disperse into the air without damaging the oils with heat.
