You’d think when you go to pick out the perfect eyeliner, the choice would be simple. Ok, if you’ve been buying make-up for any length of time at all, you know that’s an absolute farce. There is nothing simple about picking out eye-liner, you need one that’s going to hit all the important selling points and leave your look absolutely on-point. It all starts with choosing the right type of eye-liner, before you ever get to color or thickness, and we’re here to try to make that decision just a little easier by covering the basic types of eye-liner and how each may benefit you.
Gel Eyeliner
You may have been avoiding this one for a while and we can’t blame you, but we can try to persuade you that maybe your life-long quest for ‘never a gel eyeliner’ is misguided. You like cat-eyes? Gel eyeliners got cat-eyes. They’re perfect for broad detail and a powerful look, especially when you use them with an angle brush. They do have a bit of an annoying habit of drying out, so make sure you keep that little pot capped, and for the love of all that’s holy don’t lose the brush. Speaking of brushes, make sure you clean your gel brush regularly, eye-infections are no fun.
Liquid Eyeliner
If you like delicate designs and precision application, liquid-eyeliners are going to be your go-to. Time was you had to use brushes to apply liquid eyeliner, but now you have the option of some rather amazing eyeliner pens with delicate foam tips that make application a breeze. Liquid eyeliners come in a broad variety of colors and finishes and are great for adding that dark accent to your look. Of course this isn’t one you’ll perfect in one go, when you first start using it give yourself plenty of time to get your look just right. Liquids can be tricky.
Pencils
Ahhh, pencil eyeliners, bringing the perfect combination of precision, variety, and ease of use to the world of eyeliners. While liquids and gels can provide great precision and solid application, if you want the subtlety of the smoky look, pencils are where its at. Also, for getting liner onto the waterline there’s really no substitute, no one wants a liquid eyeliner that close their eyes. Mind you, there’s a bit of reminiscence about your school days here, pencil sharpeners will forever be a part of your life with pencil eyeliners. Most importantly, be careful of the sharp and pointy eyeliners, you’ll put your eye out kid.
There ya go, the three basic types of eyeliner. When you delve in deep there are multiple varieties within each of these to consider. Make-up isn’t a hobby we learn as kids, it’s a vocation (and for some an obsession) we spend a lifetime in honing. So get in there and start trying new things, a piece of advice that’s generally good for every aspect of your life! You won’t regret it, and your bomb new look will appreciate it.
